AI Future Focus: Teaching for an Unpredictable Tomorrow

It is challenging for us, as educators, to prepare students for a rapidly changing world shaped by artificial intelligence, as AI is evolving faster than school systems can adapt – in fact, faster than most systems can adapt. While many professional learning experiences focus on how to use AI tools, we also need to consider our role in preparing students for a future in which they not only collaborate with humans, but also with intelligent machines. How can we bolster our students with critical life skills to engage with the ethical, emotional, and societal implications of living alongside AI? Because AI is relatively new, we may feel underprepared to engage and lead discussions about AI’s role in the future of work, identity, society, and decision-making. To truly prepare students, we must help them build future-resilient skills. In this course, we will examine contemporary perspectives about AI and consider the skills that will help students prepare for the future.
