As an SLP, you know the importance of speech and language. You realize distinctions between languages, dialects, accents, and delays or disorders in these areas. In this part of the micro-course, explore the process for educating English Learners and explore problems that arise from over- and under-identification.

Part 2: Language Acquisition and Second Language Acquisition Phenomenon

It is imperative that teachers and related service providers understand the normal processes and phenomena of second-language acquisition to avoid making "false positive" identifications. In this part of the micro-course, explore concepts such as code-switching, translanguaging, language loss, and accents/dialects.

Part 3: Multi-disciplinary Assessment for the SLP and an SLP Toolkit

SLPs and others who work with English Learners continually look for ideas for properly assessing their students. This part of the micro-course provides tips, strategies, and resources that further develop your knowledge and ability to provide culturally responsive assessments and team-based solutions.
